ROBERT TINO, Artist
Robert Tino was born in Bristol Tennessee and he grew up in North Carolina as a child. He moved to Sevierville in 1977 when he was 14 years old. He attended Sevier County High School where he met friends for life such as Jeff Rader and Max Rytz. In high school he continued to pursue his passion for painting which had started at the age of 12. As a teenager he began to set up art shows and sell his art at the Sevier County Library and The Music and Arts Festival which was held around the grounds of the Sevier County Court House. When he graduated high school, his parents moved back to the Carolinas, but Robert decided to stay in Sevierville. Robert says of Sevierville that it is the first place where he made real friends and for the first time, he felt he was home.
He attended The University of Tennessee Knoxville and earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts and a minor in business. His junior year in college he released his first limited edition print and by his senior year he opened his first art gallery in downtown Sevierville in Crawford’s Notch. In 1984 he married his high school sweetheart Mary John Denton, a lifelong resident of Sevier County. They have a son, Riley, and a daughter Chloe.
Robert currently has a gallery in the historic Riley H. Andes house which is on the national register of historic places in Tennessee, located off Highway 66 in Sevierville. Here he showcases his original artwork as well as a wide collection of limited-edition prints. His gallery also offers custom framing to the public. The beauty of Sevier County and the Great Smoky Mountains serve as inspiration to Robert’s artistic soul. He often says that he will not be able to capture all of the allure of our area in a lifetime. Yet, he paints every day capturing as much as he can, most like a historian that documents the important details of an era.
He has been a board member of Tennessee State Bank since 2002. He is an honorary board member of The Friends of the Smokies and a graduate of Leadership Sevier class of 1998.
